awwww! What a nice mommy! lol I don't know the exact date that my guys were born on. They all have the same birthday: January 1st-LOL! They don't get left out though because every night at about 9:00 pm, I go down to the barn and feed them a whole bag of carrots. There are six of them, so the bag doesn't go very far, but I wouldn't want them to get sick from eating too many anyway. They probably wish I would buy them each their own bag-lol! They look forward to it every night. They get so excited when I come down. I love to see their faces light up when they see me- it makes me so happy. (No matter how tired I am-lol.)

You DO share your birthday with A LOT of horses. My dad used to be an exercise jocky, and he told me that race horse people don't even bother remembering the day or month their horse was born. Only the year is important, so ALL race horses are born on January 1st-lol!
Yeah, I do have my own barn.

haha- I don't really know what to say to that. I love my barn, but I also hate my barn.
I love the fact that my barn is about 10 steps from my house, and I am able to see my ponies/horses whenever I want, day or night. I hate the fact that no matter what, I never get a day off. Every morning, I have to do barn-work; every afternoon, I have to do barn-work; and every night, I have to do barn-work. If it rains, the first thing that comes to my mind is the horses- "Do I need to get them inside?" If it gets hot, I think of the horses- "Do they have blankets on that I need to take off? Do they have enough water?" If it gets cold, I think of the horses- "Do they need blankets put on them?" Don't get me wrong, I love my horses and I love doing the work. I love cleaning and putting lots of fresh bedding in their stalls with a big pile of hay waiting for them, and seeing their faces look at me; appreciating it so much. I love being the one they look forward to seeing in the morning to feed them and put them outside to play. I love being the one that says, "I love you, I will see you in the morning, goodnight!," every night before they go to bed. I'm the first one they see in the morning, and I'm the last one they see at night, and I don't mind doing it at all! I love it!! It's just that, when I do it day after day without a break, and then friday before a show; I have to bathe my guys, and trim my guys, and clean my tack, and hook up the truck and trailer, and clean the trailer, and clean the truck, and make sure everything is where it needs to be; on top of doing the barn-work that day. It gets old, and I get tired. I usually don't ride but one day a week if they are in "horse show mode". (If they haven't been in work I will, of course, hack them more than that. I don't own a jump, so I only hack. I hate jumping at home, so it works out for me-LOL.) I will usually hack on thursday and show on saturday. I give them all week off-lol. My guys are happier that way, and I'm am soooo lucky. There are a lot of horses that would flip out if you did that with them.
If you have barn-help, it's not so bad. They do all the barn-work for you, so that when you go down to the barn you get to do the fun stuff. They are right by your house so you can love on them whenever you want. That part of having your own barn is GREAT! My advise to anyone thinking of getting a barn, is to make sure you have barn-help. Otherwise, the work will burn you out fast.
Sometimes, it's hard to tell people the cons of having your own barn. Only because it's hard for them to understand what the work is like until they actually do it. There are some days I am so tired, I can hardly walk. Then I remember that my ponies/horses count on me, and I don't want to let them down. They help me remember that the "pros" of having a barn ALWAYS override the "cons" of having a barn. Any day of the week! I love them so much!

geeez. your future barn (assuming you'll have one...i dunno about anyone else, but i can't imagine a life without riding) is going to be some kind of amazing. i'm sort of floored by the fact that you don't own a jump....so the only time you ever jump is at shows? wow.

haha- yeah, I only jump at the shows. So I guess my practice jump, before I go in the ring to show, is REALLY my practice jump. LOL
(My "future" barn? I already have a barn.)

i seriously wish i had my own barn. just like 8 stalls or something - for the easy keepers. like i want a miniature pony but that wont happen and i want a cow! i really want a cow and everytime we drive out to coventry theres this field of sheep & lambs and its sooo funny to watch them run around (: they would be cool to have

haha, thanks!
oh ok- well, this is my last jr. year, so I guess my future is now. (And that IS how I run my barn.) I know what you mean about not being able to live without riding. I feel the same way. I wish I was good enough to be a pro., but I don't think anyone would want me. Besides, all I want to ride are ponies, and, of course, that's the only thing I can't ride once I out age. I guess I could do special hunter or something, but it's not the same. I'm having a pretty hard time dealing with it, so I don't like to talk about it or even think about it. It's really killing me inside.

I don't think there is such a thing as an easy keeper- they all take a lot of work, haha-LOL! Cows and sheep are different. You can throw them in a field with lots of grass and forget they are out there, but show horses are a different story.

oh, and unless you are thinking of owning 8 horses, it is much cheaper to board your horse then take care of it youself. If you have 8 horses, then I would get your own barn, but if not, then just let someone else take care of it- LOL!

of course, all of what I just told you all depends on if you would have barn-help or not.

(I don't mean to sound mean. I'm really sorry if that's what I sounded like. I didn't mean to sound that way at all! If you think what I said is mean, then I take it all back. God, I hope I didn't sound mean. I am so, so, so sorry if I did!)
